Venita Allene Ragan

Life Legacy Venita Allene Ragan-Chaney-Coffee, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 1st, 2018 in the comfort of her home, The Lodge, at Ardmore Village in Ardmore, Oklahoma. Venita was born, March 25, 1931, to Lester R. Ragan and Gertrude Nancy Robbins-Ragan in Milburn, Oklahoma being the third of four children. Born and raised in Milburn, Venita is a proud alumnus of Milburn High School’s Class of 1949. Venita was united in marriage to Leonard George (L.G.) Chaney on December 28, 1949 in Johnston County. Soon after, they moved to Eunice, NM where she worked as a homemaker and on, August 28, 1952, they welcomed their son Mondell Wayne Chaney. In the mid-1960’s they returned to Johnston County. Unexpectedly, Venita lost her husband, L.G. Chaney, on August 6, 1971. They were married 22 blissful years. She remarried, Wilburn Junior Coffee, in 1977 They enjoyed 21 wonderful years until he passed on March 24, 1998. While in Johnston County, she gained employment at Johnston County Memorial Hospital as a ward clerk and an employee of Indian Nations Community Action Services (October 1969-July 1973). After leaving INCA, Venita went to work for Oklahoma DHS on July 16, 1973 where she retired. During her retirement years, you would find her visiting nursing home residents, attending local country music shows, as well as, enjoying coffee in the company of friends at Pier 7, Western Inn, Cousin’s, and Dairy Queen restaurants. She was a faithful member of, The Church of Christ, attending: Westside and Central Churches of Christ in Tishomingo and, most recently, McLish Avenue Church of Christ in Ardmore. Above all, she enjoyed reading her bible and spending time with those she cherished dearly. She soulfully loved her family. She was a devoted daughter, sister, sister-in-Christ, wife, mother, Nanny, aunt, cousin, and tribal member of The Choctaw Nation. In addition to her beloved parents and two husbands, she is preceded in death by her son, Mondell W. Chaney; sister, Ruth Carter; nephews, Terry Ragan and Wendell Carter; great-nephews, Michael Carter and Colten Ragan. Survivors include her brother, Ralph Ragan; sister, Cletus Ledbetter; granddaughters, Lindsay McCarter and Jessica Tynes; great- granddaughters, Kaytlyn and Emily McCarter; great-grandsons, Chandler McKinnon and Mason Tynes; nephew, Larry Rowland; niece, Joni Jeter; great-nephews, Bay and David Rowland, Callen Ragan, Gage and Grant Jeter; great-nieces; Lori Black, Evi Coburn, Candi Morgan, and Tonya Rowland, as well as, numerous other family members and friends. Funeral services will be Friday, April 6, 2018 at 2:00 pm at Westside Church of Christ under the direction of Clark’s Funeral Home of Tishomingo with Buddy Deaver officiating assisted by Stuart Bailey. Internment will be at Condon Grove Cemetery in Milburn, Oklahoma. Pallbearers are Callen Ragan, Breyden Brookshire, Gage Jeter, Grant Jeter, and Larry Wood. Honorary pallbearers are Larry Rowland, Chandler McKinnon, and Mason Tynes. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made to Condon Grove Cemetery at PO Box 387 Milburn, OK 73450 and/or Milburn Education Foundation, PO Box 428 Milburn, OK 73450. The family of Venita would like to express our heartfelt, sincere gratitude to the professional and loving staff of The Lodge at Ardmore Village, Aspire, Mercy Hospital, Milburn Family Medical Clinic, and Chickasaw Nation Health Clinic .
