O. A. Savage Jr.

O.A. Savage of Stratford, Oklahoma was born May 4, 1936 near Marietta, in Love County, OK to Othel Avie Savage and Gertrude (Easter) Savage. They moved to Amber, OK when O.A. was a young boy in the 1940's. He and his family moved to Stratford in 1948 to begin a legacy. He graduated from Stratford High School with the class of 1954. Soon after, he met Darla Jean Ramsey, the love of his life, at a gospel meeting in Wayne, OK and they were married on November 29, 1957 in Oklahoma City. In 1968, O.A. and Darla moved to the farm southwest of Stratford and raised 5 headstrong children, much like their daddy. O.A. served proudly as an Elder and long-time member of the East Main Church of Christ with his wife of 63 years by his side, until the day he died on January 21, 2021. With a strong foundation of faith and family, they raised sheep, cattle, wheat, and alfalfa hay. The family takes great comfort in knowing that he has now gained his heavenly crown. Preceded in death by: his parents, Othel Avie and Gertrude; brothers: Barney Bob, Donald Max, Royce Wayne Savage; sisters: Patsy Ann Lawson Elmore, Avis Ilene and Wanda Ruth Savage. Survived by: his wife Darla of the home; 1 daughter Melinda Arlene (Savage) Simpson & husband James; 4 sons: Michael Gene Savage & wife Rhonda, James Mark Savage & wife Julie, Patrick Othel Savage & wife Amber, Paul Joe Savage & wife Julie; 1 brother Jerry Thomas Savage & wife Marlene, and 1 sister Linda Lou Rosson & husband Duane. Grandchildren: Leah Perkins & husband Steve, Adam Savage & wife Suni, Elizabeth Townley & husband Darren, Mariesa Savage & Dustin Gregory, Jacob Thomas Savage, Jessica Simpson & Caleb Story, Austin Simpson & wife Jude, Eli Savage & wife Sarah; Gracie Savage, Jack Savage, Cade Savage, Brody Savage, Brynn Savage, and Logan Pollard. 8 great-grandchildren: Ethan, Harper, and Grayson Savage; Luke, Gabbi, and Evie Perkins; Maddix and Tate Townley; Bryar and Beckam Gregory. Pallbearers: Grandsons: Adam Savage, Eli Savage, Cade Savage, Austin Simpson, Jacob Thomas Savage, Brody Savage, Jack Savage, and Logan Pollard & great-nephew Jakob Savage. Honorary Pallbearers: Duane Rosson, Jerry McCorkle, Dee Teel, Jimmie Jarrell, Danny Wells, Joe Willingham, Ray Jarrell, Shawn Lawson, Joe Ramsey, Jim Ramsey, Billy Ramsey, Robert Crull, Edgar Lawson, Glen Lunsford, and Donald Watts. Visitation: Monday January 25, 2021 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM at DeArman/Pickard Funeral Home Stratford, Oklahoma. Services: Tuesday January 26, 2021 2:00 PM at the Stratford High School auditorium. Masks are required. Officiating: Shawn Zybach, Joe Willingham and Shawn Lawson. Burial will be at McGee Cemetery, Stratford Oklahoma. In lieu of flowers, please give to the O.A. Savage Memorial Scholarship Fund.
