Lillian Bernice Underwood

Lillian Bernice Wisdom Underwood was born on June 15, 1927, to Alice Carhee and Cleveland Wisdom in Mill Creek, Oklahoma. She passed on to be with her Lord and Savior on November 1, 2025, at the age of 98. She married Andrew “Bud” Underwood on June 8th, 1948, and they lived in the Mill Creek area most of their lives raising 5 children. She is survived by her sons Larry Wisdom, Darrell Underwood & wife Linda, Dexter Underwood & wife Valerie, all of Mill Creek, OK, one daughter Tammy Davis of Norman, OK and one sister Juanita Moody of Ada, OK. 13 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, 11 great-great-grandchildren with one on the way. Along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son Michael Underwood, a daughter in law Mary Wisdom, a son in law Richard Davis, a grandson Christopher Underwood, a great-granddaughter Akasha Glenn, her brother Albert Wisdom, sisters Catherine Pendergraft, Evelyn Holland, Ruby Barlow, and Ruthie Ellis. Lillian or as she requested everyone to call her “Granny”, worked as a telephone switch machinist with Stromberg-Carlson in Gene Autry, OK for many years until the company was to move its production out of state. She then worked many odd jobs to help support her family including clothing manufacturing until she was hired by the Chickasaw Nation Senior Nutrition Connerville site as a cook. She loved this position and eventually was transferred to the Sulphur nutrition site where she worked until her retirement in 2017 at the age of 90, serving 24 years. She loved her children and especially her grandchildren, never missing a birthday celebration or any softball, basketball, concerts, graduations, or whatever they were active in. She always prepared a meal so that her children were fed after playing their softball games during the summer season. She loved camping, fishing, and hunting with her husband until his passing and continued camping during the annual Underwood-Hamilton family reunion held every June. Everyone looked forward to her famous chocolate sheet cake and tried to get a piece before it was gone. Her grandchildren never had to worry about having the things they needed because she made sure they were taken care of. Whether it was a handmade Halloween costume, colored eggs for Easter, treats after their games, or a McDonald’s date for happy meals. Her grandchildren never had a birthday without having a handwritten check for $20 in their hand. She was a very faithful member of Okchamali Blue Baptist Church for greater than 40 years, where she served in many positions, cooking for Indian Falls Creek church camp, and on mission trips to South Dakota and Florida. She loved taking care of her family near and far. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 6, 2025 at Okchamali Blue Baptist Church in Connerville with Pastor Larry Hawkins to officiate. Interment to follow at the Seeley Cemetery in Connerville. Family hour will be Wednesday, November 5 at DeArman-Clark Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
