Joyce Marie Butler

Joyce Marie Butler, a resident of Wynnewood, OK, was born in Oklahoma City, OK on August 2, 1934 to Virgil and Wilma (Wells) Turner. She went on to be with the Lord on Tuesday February 23, 2016 in Oklahoma City, OK. Joyce grew up in Oklahoma City all except for two years of her childhood which were spent in St. Louis. She graduated from John Marshall High School in Oklahoma City, then met Carroll at Christmastime in 1952 and they were married six weeks later on Valentine's Day February 14, 1953 in Fort Smith, AR. She spent several years working for H&R Block in Oklahoma City and later Pauls Valley after they moved to Garvin County from Oklahoma City in 1981. After their move they spent the rest of their life at their home in Garvin County. Joyce was an active member of the Extension Homemakers of Murray County Joy Club since 1984. Joyce's love for crafting, sewing, and fellowship were her pastime and passion. Joyce attended the Katie Baptist Church. Joyce and Carroll celebrated their 63rd anniversary two weeks ago while she was in ICU at St. Anthony's. Joyce said "we like exciting anniversaries" with a twinkle in her eye. During their marriage they spent seventeen years travelling the country in an 18 wheeler visiting grandkids and making friends all along the road. Joyce remembered these as her favorite times of her life. Joyce was a loving wife, and caring, nurturing, and generous woman who was soft spoken but determined. She was also smart, which she reminded us of while in the hospital. Joyce loved all babies and cared for many children in her home through the years in addition to her own children. She is still known as Momma Joyce by those who were blessed by her loving maternal ways. Joyce is survived by her husband James Carroll Butler of their home; Daughter - Cynthia M. Christman and husband Kent of Mohnton, PA; 3 Sons - James C. Butler II and wife Barbara of Norman, OK; Rodney B. Butler and wife Darlene of Elmore City, OK; Kevin D. Butler and wife Carol of Wynnewood, OK; Brother - Virgil Turner and wife Joan of Blanchard, OK; 22 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Services will be held Friday February 26, 2016 at Katie Community Center at 1:00 PM with a luncheon and fellowship preceding at 12:00 PM and graveside service following at Katie cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Oklahoma Pregnancy Center or Oklahoma Children's home. Services are under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home of Wynnewood, OK.
