Dorothy Fay King

Dorothy Fay King, age 96, of Durant, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2026, in Durant. Dorothy was born on October 6, 1929, on her family's 40-acre homestead in Weeks, Arkansas, to William Miron Nicholas and Oma Faye Nicholas. She spent her childhood in Arkansas before her family later moved to Texas. Dorothy made Texas her home for most of her adult life before retiring to Oklahoma. Dorothy was no stranger to hard work. She enjoyed a long and successful career, first as a drapery seamstress for Knight Furniture Company and later as a Manufacturing Production Specialist with Texas Instruments. She retired from Texas Instruments at the age of 62 after many years of dedicated service, earning recognition for her commitment and outstanding work ethic. A devoted member of the Church of Christ, Dorothy lived her life guided by her faith. She had a remarkable green thumb and could grow just about anything, finding great joy in tending her garden and creating a beautiful landscape. She was also an accomplished seamstress and lovingly sewed for her family for many years, becoming known as the family's seamstress. In the kitchen, Dorothy was famous for her delicious "Gooey Cake," a dessert that continues to be a family favorite at gatherings. Above all else, Dorothy treasured her family. Being a mother and grandmother was the greatest joy of her life. She continually reminded those she loved to put God first in their lives and to always love one another—wisdom her family will carry with them for generations. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, William Miron and Oma Faye Nicholas; her husband, Joe King; her brothers, William Nicholas, Harry Nicholas, Frank Nicholas, Calvin Nicholas, and Billy John Nicholas; her sister, Martha Ross; and her granddaughter, Sonya Mull. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her son, Leland Tom Mullins, Jr. and wife, Barbara, of Durant, Oklahoma; her grandchildren, Tracy Waymire of Denison, Texas, and Tosha Mullins-Ferguson of Durant, Oklahoma; her bonus grandsons, Mark Malone, Michael Malone, Matt Malone, Melvin Malone, and Marshall Malone; her great-granddaughter, Kenedy LaFevers; along with numerous bonus great grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, extended family members, and dear friends. Dorothy's legacy of faith, love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her.
