Colene Wallace

Colene Wallace passed away peacefully on May 20, 2025, in Tishomingo, Oklahoma, at the age of 79. She was born on October 26, 1945, in Tishomingo to Willie L. Black and Molly (Davis) Black. Colene spent her early years traveling throughout Oklahoma and Texas with her family, following the harvest seasons. After the passing of her mother, she stepped into the role of caregiver, helping raise her siblings and looking after her father. She continued that nurturing role throughout her life, often helping care for her siblings’ children so they could work, and later dedicating herself fully to being a homemaker. She was a longtime member of the Assembly of God Church until her health made it difficult to attend. Her faith was an important part of her life, and her home was always open to those she loved. Colene enjoyed canning vegetables and making homemade jams—especially her famous blackberry jam. She delighted in taking the children to the creek nearly every day during the summer. She taught many of them how to cook, how to drive, and even how to spin the tires on a car—memories they’ll never forget. She is survived by her children, Kaye (Black) Wallace and Don “Junior” Black, both of Tishomingo, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Leslie Black of Lone Grove, April Tamplen of Tishomingo, and Cassey Moon of Wilson; great-grandchildren, BreAnna Tamplen, Ashlee Perkinson Wheeler, Josh Tamplen, Eleanor Perkinson Weaver, Kirsten Tamplen, Eric Perkinson, Gage Tamplen, Memory Wilkins, Grace Wilkins, Hercules Wilkins, and Everly Wilkins; and great-great-grandchildren, Bentley Wallace, Phoenix Weaver, Ryder Weaver, Stevie Weaver, Angelica Vandevier, and Axel Tamplen. She was preceded in death by her parents, Molly (Davis) Black and Willie L. Black; her husband, Tommy Joe Taylor; her sister, Mary Jean Pierce; her brothers, John Black, Harvey Black, Robert Black, and Seburn Black; and her great-grandson, Cayden Perkinson. Pallbearers will be Jody Tamplen, Robert Black, Dustin Pettigrew, Neal Garrett, Benny McClendon, and Leslie Black. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2025, at DeArman-Clark Funeral Home Chapel in Tishomingo, with interment to follow at Bullet Prairie Cemetery. A family and friends hour will be held on Thursday, May 22, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction and care of DeArman-Clark Funeral Home.
