Waukera June Hanlin
November 11, 1927 - May 23, 2022
Waukera June Washington Hanlin, 94, of Milburn, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2022. She was born in Milburn, Oklahoma on November 11, 1927 to Osler and Mildred Sharp Washington. Waukera graduated high school in San Francisco, California and went on to attend business school in Oklahoma City. She married the love of her life, Herb Hanlin, in Reno, Nevada on June 3, 1967. Waukera was a spunky redheaded bootleggers’ daughter. She was proud of her bootlegging days and would tell stories of being six years old and running whiskey with her dad. Most importantly she would tell you how wonderful it was to be spoiled as an only child. Waukera loved her gold heels which she will be buried in. She loved telling stories about sashaying down Las Vegas strip in her gold heels and pink sequined dress. She was honored to be ¼ Chickasaw. If you didn’t believe so, all you had to do was ask and she would tell you that all Chickasaws did not have dark hair, some were redheaded. She retired from the Chickasaw Nation after working directly for Governor Bill Anoatubby as his administrative assistant for several years. Prior to her tenure with Governor Anoatubby, she was secretary for multiple pipe fitter companies and traveled with her husband Herb across the nation. Waukera is preceded in death by her husband, Herb Hanlin; mother, Mildred Sharp Davis; father, Osler Washington; grandparents, Mother and Daddy Washington, Mother and Daddy Sharp. Those she leaves to cherish her memories are multiple cousins, second cousins and a host of friends. Thank you to the family and friends throughout the years and to those who helped during this prolonged illness. Special thank you to Kim Martinez, Linda and Jackie Jolly, Ronnie and Brenda Keeling, Suzonna Gibson, Te’Ata Loper, Ashlyn Hodge, Steavie Purcell, James and Priscilla McGlocklin, and Herman Washington for their love throughout the years.
