    Hal Lynn Horton

    September 15, 1935 - February 25, 2020

Hal Lynn Horton was born to Nellie Olene Blackwell-Horton and Theodore Horton on 9/15/1935 in Sherman, TX. Hal Horton served in the United States Airforce and later the Army National Guard during the years 1952 – 1958. He regularly shared memorable stories about people from his service, but never presented himself as any type of veteran worthy of any special attention nor benefit. He considered himself very lucky in never having to serve abroad or in active conflict. Later in life, he became a Master Freemason with the purpose of learning, fraternity and serving in an organization larger than himself. Hal Horton had a heart of service and engaged people. Hal held a colorful variety of working positions throughout his life. From driving trucks to insurance sales. He sold builders’ hardware into some of Dallas’s finest homes. Before retiring, he was known by many of his customers as “Hardware Hal” and prided himself in being a very good door-lock man, but he never accepted the reference of locksmith. Hal Horton was a man that worked hard and would share his knowledge with anyone. He was married to his loving wife Doris Ann Pierce-Horton 2/4/1961, until his passing, celebrating 59 wonderful years. He and Doris raised two children Kellie Lynn and Kyle Lindsey. They moved to Milburn, OK in 2019 to complete a family journey of living on farm built. Hal loved Dixie-Land Music, Big Band Music and regularly sang out loud at home, led worship in church and hummed songs while working. Playing Wahoo, cards and Chicken-Foot were competitive sports to Hal and he always enjoyed a little trash talk. Hal and Doris were loyal members of the United Methodist Church in Mesquite, TX, charter members of New Covenant UMC Sunnyvale, TX, and later members of UMC Bettie TX and UMC Waxahachie, TX. He is preceded in death by his biological Father, his Mother Olene, his step-father Johnny Groves, brother Joe Kenneth Horton, sister Theda Joyce Beaver and his Daughter Kellie Lynn Craig. Hal is survived by his wife Doris, son and daughter-in-love, Kyle & Sharon Horton of Milburn, OK. Sister & Brother-in-love Mary Patricia & Bob Helms of Littleton, CO. Brothers & Sisters-in-love, Graham & Ruth Ann Pierce of Mesquite, TX and Bob & Barbara Drummond of Garland, TX. Hal & Doris celebrate the lives and legacy of 7 Grandchildren and 8 Great-grandchildren. He will be laid to rest at Laws Chapel Cemetery, Atlanta, TX on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at 2:00 PM. Family hour will be held at DeArman-Clark Funeral Home on Friday, February 28 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM. Friends and family can leave online condolences and memories at www.dearmanfuneralhome.com
