Ernest "Sonny" Samuel Castleberry

Ernest Samuel "Sonny" Castleberry, a resident of Sulphur was born February 17, 1938 in Sulphur "Oak Grove Community", Oklahoma to Virgil Lee & Girmillia Lue "Sis" (Cannon) Castleberry. He passed Monday away May 11, 2020 at Ardmore, Oklahoma at the age of 82 years 2 months and 24 days. He was married to Leta (Collins) Castleberry at Marietta on June 24, 1963. Sonny grew up in the "Oak Grove" Sulphur area. He graduated from Hickory High School. He received a Diploma of Honor from the State Dept. of Education for attending 12 years without being absent or tardy. Sonny did his basic training in the army at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. He served in the US Army Military Police. He later served in the Army Reserves. Sonny worked in carpentry and for the US Postal Service as a rural carrier. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson: Tyler James Morris and a sister: Ruth Pritchard. Survived by his Wife: Leta Castleberry, of Sulphur, OK Daughter: Janie Morris, of Broken Bow, OK Son & his wife: Bart Castleberry & Joanna, of Sulphur, OK 2 Grandchildren: Candice Benitez & husband Luis, of Broken Bow, OK Cassie Castleberry, of Sulphur, OK 2 Great Grandchildren: Janaya Benitez, of Broken Bow, OK Moises Benitez, of Hawaii Sister: Mary Maddox, of Sulphur, OK Brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and Forever Friends, Pallbearers will be Cliff Hughes, Don McCracken, Rick Haigood, Brett Chandler, Steve Collins, and Allen Collins. Honorary Bearers: James Collins Luis Benitez Services will be held Thursday May 14, 2020 at 2:00PM at Crossway Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Fred Bailey and Pastor Jerry Lemley.
