April 13, 1926 - July 11, 2020
Betty Wright, 94, died peacefully in Norman on July 11, 2020. She was born in her home in Wynnewood on April 13, 1926 to Ada and Sid McKinney. She grew up in Wynnewood and lived there her entire life. As a child, she enjoyed being with her sister and friends in town. She was in the Wynnewood marching band and played the clarinet. She met her best friend and companion, Doyle Wright, on a quail dinner blind date. They married on Saint Patrick's Day, March 17, 1951. She worked at the Wynnewood water and light department for many years as a secretary-bookkeeper and was the face of the department. Everyone in town knew her and appreciated her courteousness and excellent work for the city. She was a member of Wynnewood United Methodist Church for many years. She had a love of cooking, fishing, and gardening. She spent many years canning and pickling their home grown tomatoes, cucumbers, squash and okra. Shelling and cracking pecans was also one of the things she did in her later years with 30 plus pecan trees in the property her dad planted many years ago. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Ada and Sid McKinney, her siblings, Alice, Dean, and Dorothy and her beloved husband Doyle Wright. She is survived by her nephew, Ken Morris and his Donna, their children and grandchildren, stepdaughter, Lonna Sue Durbin and husband Ken, and numerous cousins. Thanks for all the staff at the grace skilled nursing and therapy center in Norman for taking care of Betty for the last 3 years. Due to the current situation, a graveside service will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery in Wynnewood on July 16, 2020 at 10:00 AM. The family would prefer everyone to wear a mask please.
