Wilma "Sissy" Claudine Cravatt

Wilma Claudine Cravatt, "Sissy", 91, passed from this life on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. She was born on October 15, 1934, in Connerville, Oklahoma, to Claud and Lela (Updegraff) Stewart. Sissy attended Connerville School and then graduated from Pontotoc High School in 1952. She was a graduate of Murray State College, where she played both basketball and softball. She graduated from East Central University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and received her Master’s degree in Education while teaching and coaching at her beloved Connerville School. Sissy married Wayne Cravatt on January 9, 1954 in Ada, Ok. They were blessed with four daughters: Claudene, Janeen, Randa and Melanie. Wayne preceded her in death in 1977. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Claud and Lela Stewart; grandson, Dustin Barrett; daughter, Claudene Barrett; great-grandson Kyng Hall, and brother, Bobby Stewart. Wayne and Sissy lived in California, Ohio and Texas before returning home to Connerville. Sissy worked as a homemaker when the girls were young, as they grew up and she worked at Connerville School. A nurturer to all children, whether in church or the classroom where she dedicated herself to teaching and coaching, she also taught Head Start and Adult Education for the Chickasaw Nation. After retiring from teaching, she worked for the USPS in Connerville until retiring in 2020, at the age of 83. She touched many lives through teaching and working for the post office. She was kind to everyone; she always had words of encouragement to offer and was genuinely invested in the lives of her family, friends and co-workers. She enjoyed cooking and made pashofa for every family holiday as well as many other family favorites (including black eyed pea salad when she didn’t forget it in the fridge); she prided herself on providing meals for all those she loved. Her weekly trips to the beauty shop were one of her favorite things, and no amount of inclement weather could stop her; she loved her stylists Robin Davis and Katelyn Nelms dearly. Sissy was a dedicated athlete throughout her youth and was later a dedicated fan of her family’s; she was a Thunder fan from day one—regardless of the changes in players (too many favorites to name) or the season’s record. She never missed a Thunder game or Final Four. She also enjoyed watching NCAA football, especially South Alabama when Trey Kiser was playing. Sissy also enjoyed sewing, making scrapbooks, reading and was a piano player for the church. Her brother, Bobby, was one of the most important people in her life and they shared a bond that lasted throughout their lives. Sissy was a woman of immeasurable faith and trust in God. She was fiercely loyal to her family; a caretaker of generations: daughters, grandchildren and great-grands. She attended ballgames—regardless of weather conditions, school functions, graduations and all events her family was involved in throughout the years. She was independent, strong, tough and gentle with a grit that was unmatched; she survived years of devastating, life-altering losses and circumstances with quiet strength and grace, unfaltering dignity and an unwavering, unbreakable faith in God. Our matriarch—the very fiber of us all. She knew no fear or hesitation when it came to protecting her family. She welcomed every one any of us brought home and made them feel like family; she is truly MamMaw and MeMe to many. She was known by different names to all who loved her; she was an irreplaceable mom, mother, MamMaw, MeMe and MawMaw. The gift of family is one that doesn’t come free—it comes from the love and dedication of elders, and in our case our matriarch. The love she poured into us and the immeasurable example she provided will carry us forward. We have lost the matriarch of our family and our hearts are broken. While we are full of sorrow, we rejoice for her. She is survived by daughters, Janeen Peercy and husband Mickey, of Ada; Randa Covington and Carrol Covington, of Hugo; Melanie Cravatt and Matthias Caputo, of Tuttle and Sister in law, Neva Jo Stewart of Connerville; grandchildren, Samaiel “Sassy” Barrett, Wes Gray and Kelly Elliot, Wayne Gray, Dana McCurry, Jori Ketchum and husband Kanyon, Jordan Monetathchi Flinn, Janessa Monetathchi and Jessy Ramer, Jara Monetatchi and wife Dawn, and Jaisen Monetathchi; and honorary granddaughter, Clara Alves and husband Saulo; great-grandchildren, Randis Gray, Kreid Stokesberry and fiancé La’Tavia Amador-Williams, Kaine Stokesberry and wife Autumn, Ryan Gray, Gracen Webb, Johnathan Gray, Liv Ketchum, Chloe Heller, Tytes Monetatchi, Cheyenne Gray, Luke Ketchum, Zandan Shafer, Braylin Monetathchi, Bryson Gray, Tytan Hall, Joseph Monetathchi and Zoey Ramer; great-great grandchildren Kaislee Stokesberry, Kohen Stokesberry, Kolsyn Stokesberry, Na’Laya Padilla and Kiase Underwood. Funeral services to honor and celebrate Wilma’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Connerville, Oklahoma, with Brother Art Brown officiating.
