Wanda Jessie Stevenson

Wanda Jessie Stevenson (Gasaway), 82, greeted her Lord and Savior on September 27, 2014. After a courageous fight with cancer, she passed away in her home in Wynnewood, OK, surrounded by her family who loved her dearly. Wanda was born October 17, 1931 in her parent’s home in Okmulgee, OK. She graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1949 and furthered her education at Draughon Business College. On January 25, 1954 she met her love of her life, Jim Stevenson. They were married on May 29, 1954 at 2nd Baptist Church in Okmulgee, OK and had 60 wonderful years together. They moved to Wynnewood in 1966. In addition to the normal work, the Stevenson’s have had several businesses along the way including running the famous Savage Drive In, the Elmore City Lumber Yard, building homes, and the Josco Home Center in Wynnewood. Throughout all of these businesses, Jim and Wanda did everything together. Where you saw one, you saw the other. They raised three proud sons that graduated from WHS; Mark, Greg, and Jeff. James and Wanda loved to travel and have made many friends throughout the U.S. Wanda was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wynnewood since 1966. Her church family meant the world to her. She showed unconditional love to every person she met and truly was a servant of God. Wanda and Jim were very involved with the remodeling of the Wynnewood Library. She took pride in being the treasurer for Friends of the Library. Wanda is preceded in death by daughter Karen, son Greg and brothers: Lee Gasaway, Leo Gasaway, Harold Gasaway and sister Mickey Farned (Gasaway) and parents Squair (Oscar) and Minnie Gasaway. She is survived by her husband James (Jim) Stevenson of their home in Wynnewood, OK; her sons: • Mark and daughter-in-law Jackie Stevenson of Wynnewood, OK, son; Jeff and daughter-in-law Janet Stevenson of Wynnewood, OK. • Grandchildren: Cortni and Scott Hawkins of Moore, OK, Tara and Tim Brown of Pauls Valley, OK, Shane and Jessica Collins of Oklahoma City, OK, Chase Stevenson of Wynnewood, OK, Cale Stevenson and fiancé Chelsea Kibler of Wynnewood, OK , Brett Stevenson of Wynnewood, OK, Carl and Heather Howard of Roundrock, TX. • 7 Great grandchildren Funeral services will be on Wednesday, October 1st, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home.
