On Monday, February 15, Walsie Kathleen May McLaughlin passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loved ones at the age of 79. Walsie was born in Wynnewood, Oklahoma on May 25, 1941, to Larry and Kathleen May. She lived most her life in Wynnewood and was a long-standing servant of the community. She worked at the Kerr-McGee Refinery, now CVR Energy, for 43 years. She was an active and long-time member of the United First Methodist Church of Wynnewood. Walsie was preceded in death by her parents Larry and Kathleen May and is survived by her husband Leroy Wayne McLaughlin of Wynnewood OK.; her children Larry Larsen and his wife Pam of Euless, TX., Meredith Larsen McNair of Denton, TX., Leslie Kutz and her husband Rick of Springer OK, and Tim McLaughlin and his wife Lynn of Gainesville; her brother Bud May and his wife Nancy and her sisters Martha Baker, Mary Woolslayer, and Shirley Gustafson and her husband Ed; her beloved grandchildren Misti, Eric, Jeff, Caroline, Andrew, Jordan, Chris, Jeff, and Justin; and her great-grandchildren Jordyn, Blaklee, Jase, Lexi, and Adison; her nieces Kathleen May, Kristi, and Angie and nephews Tony, Chris, Tim, and Gordon, Greg, Gary & Cammy. We cannot go without noting a few “young ones” who she loved as her own, Skip & Gay Dixon, Jamie Williamson & Lisa Rachel who remained devoted to whatever need may arise as she battled her illness. Walsie was known for her boundless generosity and relentless optimism. She was a staple of the Wynnewood, OK community for decades and never missed an opportunity to provide for a person in need. Walsie, affectionately known as Mimi to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, loved her family beyond measure. She was treasured by those privileged to call her kin, and she ensured that no one in her family ever went without. Walsie was fond of the expression, “no one rains on my parade." She perfectly embodied that simple maxim with her resilience, optimism, and ceaseless hope for the future - the future of her grandchildren, of her children, and of the community and country she loved. Her unshakeable optimism and eye for beauty calls to mind the teachings of Paul in Philippians 4:8: "whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue and if there be any praise, think on these things." Over the course of her earthly journey, Walsie gave of herself beyond measure. She performed innumerable acts of kindness both small and large, many of which are known only to those whose lives she touched with her generosity. But Walsie's goodness was not merely the sum of her good deeds – it was the outpouring of a remarkable soul, imbued with divine love for all. Walsie led a full life of goodness and beauty that we should all strive to emulate. She will be missed dearly by a family and community who are forever grateful for her light, her compassion, her strength, her lovingkindness, and her beauty. While the passing of her earthly self is a source of sorrow for all those who loved and were loved by Walsie, we can rejoice and take comfort in knowing she is with her Savior in Paradise, beginning her eternal life of joy and rest with the Creator. A memorial service for Walsie will be held on Monday, February 22, 2021, at the United First Methodist Church in Wynnewood at one o'clock PM.
