Vaughan "Von" Ray Caldwell

Vaughan Ray "Von" Caldwell was born January 31, 1923 in Sweetwater, Texas to Tommy and Willie Mae (Shockley) Caldwell. He passed away July 26, 2016 at Sulphur, Oklahoma at the age of 93 years 5 months and 26 days. He grew up in the Nebo, Ok. area where as a young man he delivered groceries for Howe's Store in Nebo. Later he worked for the Brown Ranch in Nebo for several years. He then went to work in the oil fields of Oklahoma and Texas before retiring from the Sohio Gas and Petroleum plant in Elmore City, OK in 1978. Vaughan and Lowanda Jo Binderim were married on January 14, 1947 in Sulphur.. Vaughan enjoyed his horses, roping, bluegrass music and playing his fiddle. Vaughan and Lowanda always enjoyed taking their camper to Blue Grass Festivals and meeting up with their many friends. He was always taking time to care for other people, family and visiting those who were sick and home bound. His greatest enjoyment was the time spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Vaughan was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother & sister-in-law: Verdie & Betty Caldwell, Vernon Caldwell and Tommy Jr. Caldwell, one sister: Vida Brewer & her husband Clifford, one brother-in-law: Kenny Baker, and a daughter-in-law: Claudette" Cluck" Caldwell. Survivors: his wife Lowanda Jo of Sulphur, 2 daughters & sons-in-law: Kathy Wilkins & C. R. of Sulphur, OK Jolene Mitchell & Bobby of Geneva, ILL. Son & daughter-in-law: Russell Caldwell & Laurie of Cumby, TX 8 Grandchildren: Ricky & wife Tammy Vaughan of Cumby, TX Kendra & husband John Hood of Cumby, TX. Travis Wilkins of Honolulu, Hawaii Ty Wilkins & Charlotte of Sulphur, OK Shannon Mitchell of St. Louis, MO, Brooke & husband Steve Darland of Queen Creek, AZ Ares Mitchell of Aurora, ILL Harley Cook of Sulphur, OK. 6 Great Grandchildren: Chase & Erin Vaughan of Cumby, TX Slade Hood of Cumby, TX, Connor, Sadie & Ember Darland of Queen Creek, AZ 2 Sisters: Mary Jo Hardoin & Jim of Sulphur, OK Vivian Baker of Helena, MT Family Members will serve as pallbearers. Services: 2:00PM Saturday July 30, 2016 at Crossway Baptist Church Chapel with Rev. Bill Leveridge officiating.
