Sylvanus Lee Cottrell

Sylvanus Lee Cottrell of Stratford, Oklahoma was born June 27, 1948 in New Castle, Oklahoma to Leo and Rosa Lee (Baker) Cottrell. He passed away in Sulphur, Oklahoma on November 3, 2020 at the age of 72. He grew up in the Stratford/Walker area and lived in the Walker community most of his life. He graduated middle school from Walker in 1962 and high school from Stratford with the class of 1967. Growing up as a boy he enjoyed bike riding, playing cars and trucks under the shade trees where he was presently living known as Seven Shooter Corner where he was the Mayor. In Syl's youth he worked for neighbors helping on farms and ranches. Later he ran the Harold Freeman ranch in Dougherty, Ok. in the Arbuckle Mountain range for 21 years. From there he moved back to Seven Shooter/Stratford area and pumped wells for 26 years. Syl loved his family from immediate on down to ancestors and loved visiting with all. He loved to sing and praise the Lord. He lead the singing here at Cottrell Mission for years, also loved to visit small churches and encourage them in the Lord. Preceded by; his twin sister; Marynevus, his wife and beloved mama of his children Janice (Keith) Cottrell, brothers; Doyle Ray, Raymond Deril, and Arlon Laroy Cottrell. Survived by; his wife; Charlotte (Brandon) Cottrell of the home. Daughters; Jana Frady & husband Trampus of De Queen, AR Stephanie Cottrell of Norman, OK. Sons; Eugene Hawkins & wife Stella of Wynnewood, OK. Brandon Cottrell of Lindsey, OK. Syl thought of these children as his own/ Jason Tinnin, Heath Tinnin and Tisha(Tinnin) Drew. Brother; Orville Cottrell & wife Becky of Stratford, OK. Sisters; Laveta Summer & husband Mack of Ada, OK. Darlene Hansen of Pikes City MN. and Arlene Mink of Sulphur, OK. 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. Sisters in law Jean Cottrell of Amarillo. TX. Mary Cottrell of Davis OK. and Kathrin Cottrell of Thayer, MO. Services; 1:00 PM Friday November 6, 2020 at Cottrell Mission. Officiating; Rev. Eric Blankenship / Rev. Orville Cottrell and Rev. Steve Pope. Burial Lewis cemetery. Pallbearers; Eugene Hawkins, Brandon Cottrell, Daniel Cottrell, Trampus Frady, Mikel Frady and Jacob Frady. Honorary Pallbearers; Gayland Summers, Garland Summers, Jason Tinnin, Heath Tinnin Monty Cottrell, and Fred Tinnin.
