Retha Eula Hertel

Retha Eula Hertel, 79, of Fillmore, passed from this life on February 27, 2021 at Wilson N. Jones Medical Center in Sherman, Texas. Retha was born in Jasper County, Missouri on May 25, 1941 to William and Golda (Browning) Malone. Raised in Pineville, Missouri. She spent her working years being a ward clerk and a receptionist in the healthcare industry. Retha married her best friend, Kirby Hertel on June 18, 1988 in Miami, Oklahoma. The two together enjoyed visiting and making memories with their children and grandchildren. Retha was an avid book reader; Christian books, love stories and just about anything that was Danielle Steel. Before her health started to decline, she loved to bake desserts and Christmas candies, her peanut butter balls were mouthwatering. When her girls were younger, she made all of their dresses for them and always said, “We may not have much money but you will be clean.” A wonderful wife, caring mother and a loving grandma, nanny, gramgram, gigi to all her grandchildren who were her true pride and joy. Retha never met a stranger, was the true definition of a social butterfly, and her outgoing, smiling personality is one that will never be forgotten. Retha is preceded in death by her parents, William and Golda Malone; sons, James Robert Hertel and Jeffery Lynn Hertel; great - grandson, Elias Campbell. Those she leaves to cherish her memories are her loving husband, Kirby Hertel; children, Cindy Watson and husband Larry of Jefferson, MO, Tammy Duncan of Navarre, FL, Brenda Mayhood and husband Randy of Roanoke, TX, Charlene Roper and husband Randy of Joplin, MO, Lori Wininger of Joplin, MO, Jerry Hertel and wife Melissa of Claremore, OK; 13 grandchildren, multiple great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends who will forever miss her. Funeral Services to honor and celebrate the life of Retha Eula Hertel will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Freedom Fellowship in Fillmore, Oklahoma with Pastor Clint Freeman to officiate. Interment to follow at Fillmore Cemetery. Family hour will be held on Wednesday from 5:00 - 7:00 at DeArman-Clark Funeral Home.
