Opal Diller

Opal I. Diller, a resident of Wynnewood was born February 4, 1913 in Layton, Oklahoma to Minnie (Carter) and O.J. Layton. She passed away February 14, 2010 at the age of 97 years and 10 days. She was married to Floyd Lewis Diller at Wynnewood, OK on October 28, 1934 together they raised three children on their farm west of town. She was a Homemaker. She was a charter member of Eastern Gate Baptist Church and served faithfully as a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She was also a 4-H demonstration leader and assisted with the Future Farmers of America. Opal was chairman of the Garvin County Farm Bureau women's committee for 9 years, she and her husband were named "Farm Family of the Year" in 1976, she wrote a column called "Life in the Country" for the Wynnewood Gazette, and served on the Advisory Board of the American Christian College in Tulsa. She was preceded in death by Husband, parents, and 6 brothers. Opal's greatest gift was her caring and compassionate nature. She always found a place in her home for relatives who had no place to live or no one to care for them. She also cared for her handicapped husband for 10 years before his passing. Opal loved all of nature especially working in her garden and flowers. Her joy of watching the bounty of her labors produce in abundance for the enjoyment of her family and friends was her greatest pleasure. Those who plant a seed below the sod and wait to see truly believe in GOD. Accepting Jesus as her Lord and Savior at a young age gave direction and purpose to her life as she instilled faith and Godly character into her children. As a proud, loving grandmother, she imparted wisdom and encouragement to 7 Grandchildren. Her 17 Great grandchildren brought her special joy and will be challenged to follow in her footsteps. All of her family is grateful for her many dear friends and loving caregivers. Special honor goes to her daughter, Laverne, who lovingly dedicated herself to our mother's care and was with her to the end. Her loving family and friends are comforted in the knowledge that this generous and brave lady has left her body for an eternal existence with Jesus Christ. We are thankful for the lessons we have learned with her along the way. She kept the faith and finished the race with courage and perseverance. She glorified Christ throughout all of her life and her victory is in Jesus. Survived by her Son and Daughter in law - Merlin and Glenda Diller of Wynnewood, OK; Daughter and Son in law - Laverne and Harold Hays of Wynnewood, OK; Daughter and Son in law - Jo Ann and Jim Norman of OKC, OK; 3 Sisters - Sylvia Brooks of Wynnewood, OK; Cleo Lee of Wynnewood, OK; Ruth Burton of Wynnewood, OK; 7 Grandchildren; 17 Great Grandchildren; Numerous Neices and Nephews Pallbearers will be Barry Diller, Steve Hays, Chad Norman, Scott Norman, Tommy Luckinbill, and Kasey Marrs. Services will be held Wednesday February 17, 2010 at 10:00 am at Eastern Gate Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Lloyd Christensen and Rev. Dale Ruggles. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home of Wynnewood, OK.
