Matha Eris Vaughn

Matha Eris Vaughn, aged 82, of Kilgore, Texas passed peacefully into the waiting arms of her Savior on September 4, 2022 in Longview, Texas. Matha was born on March 10, 1940 to Robert and Naomi Hinchey in Reagan, Oklahoma. She was an older sister to Bobby, Sammy, and Tommy Hinchey helping care for and love them. Matha secretly married Vestor Shaw as a senior in high school. She graduated from Tishomingo High School as a mom in 1958. Their marriage produced three children. Timmy, Paul, and Michael Shaw. Later in life, she married Glenn Vaughn. They married on April 1, 1962 after knowing each other for one week. She became a mom to his son, Steven. They had three more children Becky, Johnny, and David Vaughn. Later, they adopted Krystal Kesler. Glenn and Matha were married 53 years. Glenn preceded her in death along with sons Timmy, Johnny, Steven, and Michael, and son-in-law, John Hendrix and her brother, Tom Hinchey. After Matha met Glenn, she joined him in the profession of working at theaters. She was the first union projectionist in Grapevine, Texas. Later, she would manage many theaters and enjoyed promoting movies that came through the theaters. In their later years, Matha and Glenn traveled across the USA delivering RVs. Matha loved doing crafts. Crocheting kept her fingers nimble and busy. She learned to crochet and sew from her grandma, Lona Caraway, as a young child. She crocheted countless baby blankets, afghans, and dishcloths. She made quilts and cross-stitched, and loved to sew. Her last few months were spent in the nursing home crocheting baby blankets, painting wooden crafts, and encouraging other residents to color. Matha loved to have her family gather for holidays. Some of her favorite dishes to make were Coke Jello, Martha Washington candy, and Egg custard pies. She loved making apple pies and brownies. Never one to meet a stranger, Matha could talk to anyone; whether in a store or a doctor’s office. She certainly had that gift of sharing and people responded warmly to her. Left to share her memories are children and spouses; Paul and Melissa Vaughn, David and Cindy Vaughn, Becky Hendrix, and Krystal Kesler and husband Willie; Grandchildren left to cherish her memory are Travis Vaughn, Michael Vaughn, Shannon Scott, Laurel Elliott, Nathan Vaughn, Devi Vaughn, Becky Cole, Daniel Vaughn, Hunter Vaughn, Cameron Hendrix, Amy Vaughn, Megan Church, Brandi Grooms, Jordan Skye, Taylor Made, Marcus Vaughn, Marci Hooper, Colton Adams, Abby Vaughn, Madi Vaughn, Paden Vaughn, Colby Hunter, Kristian Britt, Haylee Kesler and Kelyn Kesler and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 8, 2022 at DeArman-Clark Funeral Home in Tishomingo, Oklahoma at 12:00 P.M. Interment to follow at the Troy Cemetery.
