Marjorie Ruth Shults

Marjorie Ruth Shults (Margie) was born October 15, 1929 in Roff, Ok. to Henry Lee Grantham and Myrtle Ruth (Glassgow) Grantham. She passed away April 12, 2019 in Purcell, OK. at the age of 89 years 5 months and 27 days. She grew up in the Stratford area and graduated from Stratford high School. She married Harold Shults on December 21, 1947 in Stratford. They made their home there and raised their family. Margie was a beautician for years, having her own shop in her home just north of the school, which made it very convenient for all us school kids to go get something really good to eat and use all her hair spray and make up in the shop so we would look good for the school activities. Many of Jimmie, Barbara and Kays classmates have spent the night at the Shults home. She was like a mom to many of us kids that grew up here. She worked hard all her life and one of the many jobs she loved was working at the Senior Citizens Center where she not only cooked and cleaned she helped people sign up for all kinds of help, she called people to make sure they got their flu shots and gave them times to be there. She sent food to those who had none. She made the best fried pies you ever tasted and gave them to be auctioned off to raise money for all kinds of benefits. She called all the people at the center her kids. She was elected Mrs. Peach Queen in 2017 and the title fit her to a tea. She was Mrs. Stratford to all of us, pillar of the community, and we will surly miss her. Preceded by; her parents, husband Harold, daughter Jimmie Ruth, grandson Michael Shadden, two sisters; Lorene Williams, and Mildred Grantham. Survived by; two daughters; Barbara Cosby & husband Frank of Paoli, OK., Kay Starrett & husband Allen of Wynnewood, OK. four brothers; J.C. Grantham of Sulphur, George Grantham & wife Sue Dean of Stratford, Bill Grantham & wife Barbara and Preston Grantham & wife Norma both of Springfield, MO. two sisters; Wanda Jean Wynn & husband Alfred of Alabama, and Hazel Risner of Davis. five grandchildren and several wonderful great-grandchildren. And all her kids at the Senior Citizens. Services; 10:00 AM Tuesday April 16, 2019 at DeArman/Pickard Chapel Stratford, OK. Officiating; Rev. Allen Wood. Burial will be in McGee cemetery.
