Leonard Earl Hatter

Leonard Earl Hatter, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at the age of 71. Born on Friday, August 15, 1952, in Wilson, Oklahoma, Leonard was the cherished son of Leon Franklin Hatter and Cynthia Ann Coran Hatter. Leonard graduated from Atoka High School in 1971 and married the love of his life, Mary Leona Cravatt, on June 8, 1970, in Sherman, Texas. Together, they built a beautiful family, raising two wonderful daughters and later becoming proud grandparents to three grandsons and a granddaughter. A devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Wapanucka, Leonard served faithfully as both Deacon and song leader for many years. His deep faith and love for Jesus were evident in every aspect of his life, and he was always eager to share his beliefs and guide others on their spiritual journey. Leonard was a hardworking truck driver, owning and operating Hatter Trucking in Wapanucka, where he was fondly known by his CB handle "Frosty." He retired in 2007 but remained active in his hobbies, enjoying hunting, fishing, and spending quality time with his grandchildren. Known for his delicious buttermilk biscuits and gravy, Leonard’s kitchen was a place of warmth and joy for family and friends alike. Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, Leon and Cynthia Hatter, his maternal and paternal grandparents, his infant brother Louis Gene Hatter, and three infant sisters. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Leona (Cravatt) Hatter; his loving daughters, Tanya Jolene Russell and husband Eli of the home, and Tamara Jo Hatter and Ben Jeffery of Tishomingo; his brother, Lane Hatter and wife Patricia of Atoka; his sisters, Lynda McGuire and husband Boyd of Wapanucka, and Leonora Burnett of Wapanucka. He also leaves behind his treasured grandchildren, Logan Hatter of Wapanucka, Ashlee Russell and Cutter Smith of Wapanucka, CJ Upchurch and Rylee Partin of Tishomingo, and B-Rad Upchurch of Tishomingo; his mother and father-in-law, Judy and Don Hall of Tishomingo; and a host of other family members and friends who will miss him dearly. Leonard’s life was a testament to the values of hard work, faith, and family. His legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew him. A service to celebrate Leonard’s life will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 10:00 am at the First Baptist Church of Wapanucka. Interment will follow at Boggy Depot Cemetery in Atoka. Family hour will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at DeArman-Clark Funeral Home. Arrangements were made under the direction and care of DeArman-Clark Funeral Home in Tishomingo.
