Jo Leta Deaton

Jo Leta Deaton, 73, of Tishomingo, Oklahoma passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023 in Tishomingo surrounded by her loving family. Jo Leta was born on January 14, 1950 in Los Angeles, California to Joe Raymond and Monda Oleta (Spiva) Russell. She spent her childhood years growing up in Los Angeles until the age of 12 when her family moved to Tishomingo where she attended the rest of her school years, graduating from Tishomingo High School. She spent her years after high school being a wife, mother, and homemaker. She was extremely proud that at the age of 48 she went back to Murray State College and obtained an Associate Degree of Applied Science on December 11, 1998. Jo Leta loved crafting, hunting, fishing and gardening; she could make anything grow with just a bucket of water. She loved watching westerns, hallmarks, HGTV but her favorite show that everyone knew her to watch if you were at her house was Murder She Wrote. Jo Leta was everyone’s “Nana Jo”, you never left her home hungry and if one person got a whooping, you all did. She loved everyone’s kids as though they were truly her own. She had an outgoing personality, never wanting to take a serious photo, a true heart of gold person who left an impact and touched so many people throughout her lifetime, although she is gone, she will never be forgotten. Jo Leta is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Monda Russell; husband, R.L. Grant; son, Kenneth Raymond Deaton; sister-in-law, Patty Russell., Those she leaves to cherish her memories are her son, Gary Wayne Deaton II and wife Tabatha; daughter, Monda Russell and husband Jay; 1st husband, Gary Wayne Deaton; grandchildren, Jaycee Parks and husband Byron, Lauren Payne and husband Kevin, Jasper Deaton and wife Emily, Micheal Deaton, Eon Russell and partner Randall Robert, Noah Deaton, Kenneth Russell, Zander Deaton and Aspen Deaton; 7 great grandchildren and one on the way; brother, Dennis Russell; sister, Pam Lovett and husband Mike; previous daughter in law, Sandy Deaton and a host of other family and friends who will deeply miss her. A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 25, 2023 at DeArman-Clark Funeral Home in Tishomingo with Pastor Jon Smith and Tom Golden to officiate. Those who the family would like to recognize as honorary pallbearers will be Curtis Jemison, Darvin “Dodie” Nanney, Casey Estep, Kevin Payne, Byron Parks, Jasper Deaton, Micheal Deaton, Eon Russell, Noah Deaton, Kenneth Russell, Zander Deaton and Aspen Deaton.
