Jimmy Helm of Byars, Oklahoma was born December 16, 1942 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to C.C. (Bud) and Fay (Strickland) Helm. He passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter & son in law Debbie and Keith Bittle on November 19, 2023 at the age of 80 years 11 months and 3 days. He lived most of his life in the Byars area. He graduated from Stratford High School . He married Peggy Bates on June 30, 1961 in Wynnewood, Oklahoma, and from this union they had three children Debbie, Shara and Jimbo. Jim worked at the oil Refinery in Elmore City until retirement. Papa He loved his coffee in the mornings and his evenings with the guys and walking outside to get a breath of fresh air. He loved his children, grandchildren & great-grandchildren. As a Papa, he taught us all how to drive at a very young age, whether our parents knew it or not. His only words of wisdom was that it was just as easy to drive fast as it was slow! He made sure to show up. Just stopping by to take us to feed cows & the countless hours spending time in the pastures with the horses or to take us shopping for a new pair of boots or just to grab lunch, he always made time to show up for his grandkids. The old cowboy lessons to the life and even dating advice he would give us may not have been what our parents wanted our young ears to hear, but it was solid and true advice anyways. He was honest to a fault, even it it meant telling you about your acne or your unwanted weight gain. From bringing home puppies for his grandkids to the surprise of their parents, buying new horses, looking for vehicles, taking us to eat at Tios (even if all we were going to order was chicken strips & fries instead of Mexican food), he taught us to have patience & how much he loved us! That is one thing we never had to ask ourselves, we KNEW he loved us! Preceded by; his parents C.C. and Fay Helm, son, Jimbo Helm, granddaughter; Brittney Rogers, grandsons; Jake Bittle and Trey Helm, brothers; Deryl Johnston & Buddy Helm, sisters; Hildredth, and Della. Survived by; daughters; Debbie Bittle & husband Keith of Stratford, Shara Rogers & husband Mike, daughter in law Paige Helm all of Byars, Grandchildren; Shatona Gallup & husband Jason, Brielle Hatter & husband Robbie, Myla Ashton Spraybery & husband Tyler all of Stratford, and Brandon Rogers of Byars. grand daughter in law Leah Wolfe & husband Blake of Stratford, 13 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers; will be Tyler Spraybery, Brandon Rogers, J.J. Gallup, Robbie Hatter, Spencer Fisher, and Jason Gallup, Honorary Pallbearers; Jag Gallup, Linclon Jake Fisher, Mavrix, & Jaxon Spraybery. Visitation; will be Tuesday evening November 21, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM in DeArman/Pickard Funeral Home Stratford, Oklahoma.
