James "Jim" Edward Sutton

James Edward Sutton was born on September 16, 1948, in Silver City, NM, to Riley “Cowboy” Sutton and Louise Belt Sutton. He graduated from Roff High School in 1966. Following high school, James proudly served his country in the United States Army. He entered service in March 1969 and completed basic training at Fort Polk, Louisiana, before continuing advanced infantry training at Tigerland. He served 11 months and 19 days in Vietnam in 1970 as part of the 199th Light Infantry and was proud to have earned his Combat Infantry Badge. After returning home, James attended East Central University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1980. He worked for the Oklahoma Highway Department while completing his degree and later on as an accountant. In 1987, he began working for the IRS as a Revenue Agent. On April 11, 1980, he married Donna Roberts Sutton. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and cherished family memories. James had a deep love for Oklahoma Sooners football and Oklahoma Sooners softball. He was a loyal Sooners fan and rarely missed a game. After retirement, he was truly happy and especially looked forward to summers spent taking vacations with his beloved wife, children, and grandchildren. He treasured the memories they made together and was particularly excited for the special three-week vacations he shared with his granddaughter, Rylee, time that brought him immense joy. Above all else, his greatest love was his family. James and Donna had a blended family including five children: Steve Sutton (Debbie), Cissy Sutton, Greg Stewart, Brett Stewart, and Sari Lawless (Jason). Together they had ten grandchildren: Shane Sutton (Kortney), Shayla Vanhorn (Josh), Shylee Patton (Riley), Rylee Hayes, Jaci Moczygemba (Chandler), Jackson Lawless (Taylor), Abigail Stewart, Elizabeth Edge (Aaron), Jesse Stewart, and Bryce Stewart. They had twelve great grandchildren: Aspen, Willa, Emmalyn, Adeline, Nova, Henley, Maddox, Sutton, Easton, Beau, Brooks, and Georgia. He is survived by his brother and sister, Evelyn Sutton and Bruce Sutton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Angela Hyatt; his son, Brett Stewart; his in-laws, Ernie and Leola Roberts; brother-in-law: Roland Fowler; his sisters-in-law, Bobbie Fowler and Sharon Sutton. James will be remembered for his service, his loyalty, and the steady love he gave to those around him. His legacy lives on through the generations of family who were his greatest pride A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at DeArman-Pickard Funeral Home in Stratford, Oklahoma Interment will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Fort Sill National Cemetery.
