Dorothy Esther Westberg Burns, a resident of Norman, OK was born January 22, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois to Amanda Marie (Carlson) and Karl Emil Westberg. She passed away December 11, 2010 at Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 93 years 10 months and 19 days. She married Frank Brent Burns in Chicago, IL on November 3, 1944. Dorothy grew up in Chicago where she lived until 1948. After graduating from Carl Schurz High School in 1935, she attended Chicago Normal College for three years. She then enrolled in the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and graduated in 1939 with a degree in Education. She taught in the Chicago school system until the birth of their first child. She then became a fulltime homemaker and devoted mother. In 1948, the family moved to St. Paul, MN, and then, in 1949, moved to Wynnewood, OK, where they made their permanent home. In 2007, Dorothy moved to Norman, OK, to be closer to family. She was preceded in death by her Husband - Frank Brent Burns on January 17, 1988; an infant daughter in 1959; four Brothers - Lawrence, Viv, Oliver, and Vernon Westberg; four Sisters - Lucile Norlin, Emily Fouts, Ruth Vallandigham, and Grace Nameny; Grandson - Gregory F. Taylor. She is survived by her five Daughters and Spouses - Susan and Richard Nostrand of Norman, OK; Linda and Chuck Angie of Norman, OK; Nancy and Doug Bovee of Salem, OR; Lois Clubb of Norman, OK; Dorothy Ann and Jerry Hominick of Fredericksburg, TX; two Sons and Spouse - Brent Burns - Rancho Palos Verdes, CA; Karl and Linda Burns of Tulsa, OK; 14 Grandchildren - Christopher Angie, Amanda (Matt) Angie, Kirsten (Jake) Bovee, Katherine (Matt) Bovee, Brian (Stacey) Clubb, Kelli (Roy) Caldwell, Jennifer Husted, Aaron (Afton) Hominick, Rachel Hominick, Tyler Hominick, Sara Burns, Blake Burns, Eric Burns, and Laura Burns; seven Great Grandchildren - Susan Taylor, Madeline Blaufuss, Anja Blaufuss, Jessi Caldwell, John Caldwell, Mallory Clubb, & Matthew Clubb. Our special thanks to Dr. Stephen Lindsey and to Julie, Wanda, and Debby from Lifecare Oklahoma for their kind and loving care of our Mother. Mom’s words and deeds are written on the hearts of her seven Children, 15 Grandchildren, and seven Great Grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Christopher Angie, Brian Clubb, Aaron Hominick, Tyler Hominick, and Blake Burns. Services will be held Wednesday December 15, 2010 at 11:00 am at DeArman Funeral Chapel officiated by Rev. Danny Daniels. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home of Wynnewood, OK.
