Dianna Kay Somers

Dianna Kay Somers was born in Wynnewood on August 4, 1956, to Verla Mae Deaver (Jones) and Thomas Andrew Deaver. She passed from this life on June 2, 2025, surrounded by family. Kay was raised on the family farm in Joy with her 2 sisters Kathie and Sharon. She was the middle child. She always spoke about her wonderful childhood on the farm riding horses, feeding cows, working in the garden and picking up pecans in their pecan orchard. She was a tomboy and spent most of her time barefoot. She adored her Daddy and was definitely a Daddy’s girl. He taught her to shoot guns, care for the animals, and take care of the land. She always talked about how wise her Daddy was. She always considered the farm as her home, and she cherished her time being raised there. She became a Mother at a young age, having 2 children just 10 months apart. We had a very tight bond with our Mom and we feel like she grew up with us. The 3 of us played together. We went to the lake and played all day in the water. We made mud pies in the yard. We rode around town with the windows down. We played loud music and would dance and sing while we helped her clean the house. She would always watch the Wizard of Oz and the Charlie Brown Specials with us when they came on TV. She was always full of energy and very active with us. We were always together, and she never let us get too far from her. We used to tease her about being our mean little Momma. She was very strict with us. She cooked breakfast and supper everyday and packed our lunch boxes for school. She ironed all our clothes. There were times when she worked 2 jobs just to make sure the bills were paid. She instilled a very strong work ethic in us. She made us go to bed early on school nights. Would not let us talk back and always had to know where we were and who we were with. She made us do chores around the house, had strict curfews and she made us do our homework. We weren’t allowed to lie or say words like “crap” or “butt”. Manners were a requirement in our house. She spanked us often and sometimes spanked our cousins if they were at our house. She was a no-nonsense Mom. Because of these things we knew our Mom loved us so much. She wanted nothing but the best for us. She taught us to work hard at everything we do, because we watched her work hard at everything she did. She was the definition of a selfless Mother. She did without so that we could have a little more. We were always her priority and we knew that. She had the heart of a lion in her small petite body. She was definitely a Momma bear. When we began having our own children, Mom was always there to give advice or reassurance. We could always rely on her day or night. She married David Somers on October 3, 2003. The two of them became a team and brought their two families together as one. They both enjoyed working hard and working on projects around the house. She and Dave were able to do a little traveling, and she often talked about the time they spent in Yellowstone. They helped with the grandkids as much as they could, watching them play sports or picking them up from school when needed. They attended church at Crossroads in Pauls Valley and have a wonderful church family there. She spoke about so many of their sweet friends they have at their church. Kay was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in the summer of 2017. Her doctor told her she had a tough road ahead of her. It was an uphill battle for 8 years, and she fought hard. She endured procedures and treatments non-stop over those years. She fought the cancer as long as she could. Her original prognosis was 18 months, but that just proves how tough our mean little Momma was making it 8 years. We watched her take her last breath on this earth. All the things she taught us and instilled in us are still here. She had so much courage, and she was so wise. We miss you Mom. Kay was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Abram Quincy Bradley, her younger sister Sharon Alexander and her little companion dog that she loved so much Daisy May. She is survived by her husband Dave Somers. Sister Kathie Mullins and husband Danny. Daughter Chaz Thompson and husband BJ. Son Tom Bradley and wife Leslee. Daughter Raeda Somers and Daughter Kalissa Tibbs and husband Courtland. 12 grandkids- Bo, Seezan, Dayne, Laynie, Alaia, Hunter, Kasen, Kolt, Jacie, Levi, Cheyenne, Adalynn, and Cameron. The family is planning a Private Memorial Service. Arrangements were made under the direction of the DeArman Funeral Home
