DeBett McCarter

DeBett McCarter, a woman of love and kindness, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on May 2, 2025, at the age of 65. She was born on August 8, 1959, in Terrell, Texas. DeBett grew up in Balch Springs, Texas, in what she described as “the perfect childhood”. Balch Springs is where she met and married her beloved husband, Gary McCarter Sr., and a year later they had their son, Little Gary. They started their family in the same area but eventually up and moved to Tishomingo, Oklahoma where they were married for 33 years before her husband passed away due to cancer complications in 2008. DeBett was preceded in death by her father Delbert F. Trammell and mother Jessie Ruth Trammell, both of Balch Springs, Texas; her brother Bud Trammell of Dallas, Texas; and her husband Gary McCarter of Tishomingo, Oklahoma. DeBett is survived by her son Gary McCarter, Jr. and daughter-in-law, Trish McCarter, of Tishomingo; her granddaughters Kaytlyn and Emily McCarter, both of Tishomingo; her bonus grandchildren Larissa, Lyndsey, Zac, and Mason; her bonus great-grandchildren, Julien, Mia, and Liam; her sisters Cheryl Schlinke and Missy Trammell, both of Dallas, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. DeBett deeply loved her family and friends. She treated everybody with kindness and compassion no matter their walk of life. She was a proud mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. DeBett loved Tishomingo and her community. After DeBett became a grandmother, her nickname soon became Granma, and she was known as Granma from then on by everybody who knew her. She enjoyed cooking for her family, friends, and anybody that needed a meal. Steak fingers, biscuts n’ gravy and homemade pies were her most requested. In 2008 she began working at Murray State College, where she became an integral part of the campus family. DeBett's warmth, kindness, and radiant smile touched countless lives, making her a beloved member of the community. Her legacy is one of love, compassion, and generosity. DeBett will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on through the countless lives she touched. Friends and family hour will take place on Thursday, May 8, 2025, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at DeArman-Clark Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at DeArman-Clark Funeral Home. Interment to follow at Condon Grove Cemetery in Milburn. Arrangements are under the direction and care of DeArman-Clark Funeral Home in Tishomingo.
