Darold Leo Schafer

Darold Leo Schafer, 82, of Wynnewood, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2022 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Darold was born on May 9, 1940 in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma to Leo and Mary (Mercer) Schafer. He spent his years growing up in Wynnewood and graduated from Wynnewood High School in 1958. He later went on to attend and graduate from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma. He proudly served our country in the United States Marine Corps; enlisting on July 2, 1958, serving in the Vietnam War and was discharged on December 2, 1962. Darold married Beverly Harrison on April 18, 1976 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He worked several jobs throughout his life but his main one was ranching. He spent the past 46 years of his life calling Wynnewood home. Darold had many achievements throughout his years; he was the area representative of the year for the United Studies Student Exchange, honorary chapter Farmer for Wynnewood FFA, ordained minister, and Oklahoma Director for United Studies Student Exchange. Darold was a recovering alcoholic for 50 years and spent his life helping other people overcome their addiction. Darold is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Mary Schafer; sister, Dorothy June Schafer Cox. Darold is survived by his wife, Beverly of the home; brother, Danny Schafer of Choctaw, OK; son, Don and Kacey Schafer of Houston; grandchildren, Deyton Schafer, Dalise Schafer, Dalton and Jolie Schafer, Stacie and Brandon TJaden, great grands, Beck Schafer, Brantley and Sawyer TJaden; son, David and Patti Schafer of Wynnewood; grandchildren, Derek and Deavan Schafer; great grandson, Owen Schafer; daughter, Mary Murray of Moore, OK; daughter, Dara and Matt Ammons of Pauls Valley; grandchildren, Dawson and Gracie Ammons; daughter, Dana and Shannon Schafer of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren, Alexis and Victoria Schafer. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, October 9, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church in Wynnewood with Bill McAngus to officiate. Interment to follow at Oaklawn Cemetery. Those serving as pallbearers will be John Michael Cox, Todd Glenn, Bobby Brooks, Dawson Ammons, Dalton Schafer, Deyton Schafer. Honorary pallbearer will be Derek Schafer. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Dale K. Graham Veteran Foundation (www.dkgvf.org) Arrangements were made under the direction of DeArman Funeral Home in Wynnewood.
