Catherine Odell Dixson

Catherine (Odell) Dixson, of Byars, Oklahoma was born September 10, 1925 in Asher, Oklahoma to Nathan Odell and Ora Lee (Bailey) Odell. She passed away January 7, 2021 in Jan Francis Nursing Center, Ada, Oklahoma at the age of 95 years 3 months and 27 days. She was raised south of Asher near the south Canadian river with siblings Truman, Nathalie, Towler, and Bill Odell. She attended Cook Rural Elementary school and going to Asher High School graduating with the class of 1943. Catherine loved playing basketball. After High school she moved to Ada going to work. She met and married Elbert Dixson on December 24, 1944. Shortly after Elbert went to serve in the United States Army. After returning home they had a son Jerry. She began working in Shawnee at the Sylvania plant for the next 10 years. Many nights she and her husband would drive a truck load of livestock to Ft. Worth, Texas. She went to work at Tinker Air Force Base retiring after 20 plus years. Receiving 2 awards from General for perfect attendance. Starting her days at 5 AM and evenings checking cattle if needed she would work on her dining table with a manual adding machine never missing an Asher baseball or basketball game of her son Jerry or grandsons, DeWayne, and Darin or great-grandkids. Adding to her works she'd cook a good size country dinner every Sunday. Usually had extra young people there and was always welcoming, everyone knew her as grandma Cat! Catherine loved to travel she and her late husband Elbert visiting all U.S. States and many abroad South America, Hawaii, and Europe. After the passing of her husband, she began to travel with her sister-in-law Roxie. Catherine drove them to Niagara Falls, New York, and California. She enjoyed and lived a remarkable life. She will be missed RIP. Preceded by: her parents, her husband, son, Jerry Dixson in 2006, grandson, DeWayne Dixson, two brothers, Truman and Bill Odell. Survived by; Grandson; Darin Dixson, daughter-in-law; Shirley Dixson of Asher, Oklahoma Grand-daughter-in-law; Dusty Jackson 5 great-grandchildren Keevin, Derrick, Dalton, Shelby, and Kaythryn; one sister Nathalie Towler & husband Paul of Eufaula, Ok. Pallbearers; Darin Dixson, LeRoy Odell, Ronny Nathan Odell, David Towler, Ronnie Lynn Odell, and Jack Thompson. Visitation: will be Sunday afternoon January 10, 2021 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm in DeArman/Pickard Funeral Home Stratford, Oklahoma. Services; 2:00 PM Monday January 11,2021 at DeArman/Pickard Chapel Stratford, Oklahoma. Officiating; Randy Dirrim. Burial will be in Vista cemetery Asher, Oklahoma.
