Carl Eugene Brown

Carl Eugene “Bud” Brown was born on March 1, 1949. Carl was married in 1968, when he was 19, to his beautiful wife, Zelia. He would go on to join the Navy and served in the Vietnam war. After his tour was over, he would receive his first honorable discharge. David was born to him in Rock Springs, Wyoming in 1971. Carl worked the coal mines to provide for his family. 5 years later they had another baby, Daniel. By this time the family had made their way to Hartford Arkansas where Carl provided for his family working in a furniture factory assembling baby beds. Shortly afterward he re-enlisted in a different branch of the military, the army, this time. He fulfilled his commitment and got his second honorable discharge. Another 5 years passed, and then a bouncing baby girl, Brandi, was born in Poteau, Oklahoma. He stopped building furniture a little too early. After a short 3-year stay in Oklahoma the family made its way to New Mexico, the land of enchantment. Now the story is getting good. The whole Brown Walker family teamed up working dairies and peanut fields. Within 2 years, Darren was born for Portales, New Mexico. Carl decided to pursue a career in education, attended 4 years of college, and obtained a bachelor’s degree in general education. It would go on to Chinle, Arizona to teach on Navajo Indian reservation, driving back home every weekend to give his family the money that he had earned. Carl had a heart for teaching. Not even so much teaching but witnessing people learning. Helping. During the time he was driving back and forth to Arizona every weekend he found time to re-enlist in a third branch of the military. He did another tour with the national guard because his age wouldn’t allow him to go into the army again. The national guard utilized his teaching skills, and he implemented an ongoing GED class for all enlisted men that didn’t have their GED to get it, without it, none of them would have gotten their promotions. Helping. For several years dad struggled with alcoholism, but a short stint in jail led him to the Lord for deliverance. It was then that a change happened in Carl. The drinking stopped. Not long afterwards the family moved back to Oklahoma where his kids grew up. During this time Carl was honored to adopt his middle son, Justin, who was previously born in Olney, Texas. Carl attended the Albion First Baptist Church where he was a deacon, a Sunday school teacher, and led songs service in the band. Years later he became an ordained minister of the Gospel, performed a couple of his children’s weddings, and all the while providing for his family. Helping. In 1 Corinthians chapter 12 we read about the gifts of the holy Spirit. One of the gifts is the gift of help and Carl was anointed. God gave him that gift and put him it to work. He helped more people than any of us will ever know and I’d bet that in some way he helped each one of us sitting here today. He never boasted about it. He never complained about it. He did it because he knew that’s what God wanted him to do. And he always gave the glory to God. Carl was a man’s man. He provided for his family, and he helped when he could. I’m so thankful that we are present. I feel like he died perfectly. It was beautiful. It was peaceful. He was wrapped in the arms of someone who loved and appreciated him for all that he did for us.
