Billie Marie Winters

Billie Marie Winters, beloved Mother, Grandmother and friend went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. She was born on Friday, May 24, 1929 to Gertha & Rudy Orville Cowin. Billie met her husband, Wood Winters in their youth and the two married in a ceremony on December 23, 1948 in Gainesville, Texas. She lived a full and fruitful life and enjoyed 77 wonderful years with her husband, raising a family. One of my many fond memories was my wife and I were cooking a banquet dinner at the church we were members of. Wanda was cooking the main course, so we drafted my Mom to help me make the pies we needed. Mom, always willing to help agreed (she was known for her pie making abilities). With Mom making pie crusts while I made the fillings, we worked all afternoon to make the 30 pies needed. We made pecan, coconut cream, pineapple cream, and lemon meringue. They were a big hit. Thanks, Mom, for giving to the Lord. -Mark People often referred to her as the best cook in Garvin County. She loved to knit, crochet, read and was a fierce competitor when cards were involved. She showed no mercy, even to her grandkids. She taught you the game and then beat you until you were good enough to play with her. She especially loved to play bridge. She enjoyed the strategy and a good partner. She and I played rummy daily and she beat me so often I would tell her she cheats, lies and steals. It became a running joke with her. She had a dry sense of humor and typically a no-nonsense personality, but if she ever got tickled she would laugh until she cried. None of us ever wondered if she had our back, she would fight a bear for one of her kids or grandbabies. She taught me to cook, to sew, give my all to anything I do and to keep my house clean, but most of all, she taught me how to love unconditionally. She was the ultimate role model. -Linda Billie Marie, my momma. I want to keep this short and sweet but when I think about momma and the impact she made on people, the list goes on and on. We could sit here all day with memories, like her love of reading, gardening, cooking, puzzles and cards. In fact, these are some of the things she has passed on to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. I’m pretty sure she taught them all to play spades and dominoes, not even realizing the math skills they were learning in the process. You can often find her grandkids and great grandkids lost in a book, and I can’t even count the times I’ve walked into the kitchen to find her and one of the grandkids or great grandkids elbows deep in bread dough. She loved her grandkids! In fact, she just loved people! She loved taking care of people! Growing up I would get off the bus every day with at least one friend in tow. Sometimes there were several! She never complained, she just fed them a good meal and made them feel like family! She even invited one to move in when she found that her home life was less than ideal. She would always take the kids on picnics at the pond or explore in the pasture! There were so many lessons taught, and memories made! Memories that we will all cherish forever! I’ll finish with the definition of legacy. Legacy is the long-lasting impact of actions that took place in a person’s life! Momma has definitely left a legacy that will be passed on for generations. -Terrie Billie is preceded in passing by her beloved husband of 77 years, Wood Winters; her parents, brothers Zane & Don Cowin, sisters Jimmie Richardson & Mary Lou Winters and granddaughter Cristy Ford. She leaves to cherish her memory 3 children; Son Mark & wife Wanda Winters of Davis, daughters Terrie & husband Bob Oller of Wynnewood and Linda & husband Terry Brown of Wynnewood; Granddaughters Staci & husband Dale Hudson of Tuttle, Shakeya & husband Jamel Williams of Wynnewood and Bobbi Gann of Wynnewood; Grandsons Russ & wife Kacie Brown of Wynnewood and Jace Brown of Wynnewood; Great-grandchildren, Cade Hudson, Ty Hudson, Seth Ford, Brylan Williams, Jurnee Jones, Meya Williams, Rokee Williams, Jalen Gann, Ryker Brown, Kaden Brown and Ansley Brown. She will be dearly missed. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025 from 5-7PM in the DeArman Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 30, 2025 at 1PM at the First Baptist Church in Wynnewood with interment to follow at the Oaklawn Cemetery of Wynnewood. Arrangements were made under the direction of the DeArman Funeral Home of Wynnewood.
