Betty Jo Tyson

Betty Jo Tyson, 92, of Milburn, Oklahoma, passed from this life on Thursday, August 20, 2026. She was born on March 8, 1934, in Altus, Oklahoma, to Joseph Wilmer and Bertha Belle (Rogers) Barnes. Betty grew up in Altus, where she attended Altus High School. She was of the Baptist faith and carried with her throughout life a strong, independent spirit and a determination that those who knew her will not soon forget. On April 15, 1992, Betty married Forrest Mock. Throughout her working years, Betty held various office positions and was also a true entrepreneur. At one time, she owned and operated two western wear stores, one in Hollis, Oklahoma, and another in Wellington, Texas. Betty also gave of her time as a volunteer with the Veterans Administration. Betty enjoyed reading and had a love for collecting books. She was a fan of Toby Keith's music, enjoyed trips to the casino, and loved settling in to watch television, especially a good western. She also enjoyed shopping for gifts for her friends and could spend hours visiting on the telephone. Betty particularly treasured her many conversations with her daughter, Susie, and the two could talk for hours when they called one another. Milburn was a community Betty truly loved. Her friendships there became an important part of her later years, and she thoroughly enjoyed the people around her. Betty had a generous heart toward those she cared about and enjoyed finding little ways to let them know she was thinking of them. Above all, Betty loved her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought tremendous happiness to her life. Whenever she came across special coins or two-dollar bills, she would save them to send to the kids—a simple tradition that became one of the many ways she showed her love. Even at 92, Betty possessed seemingly endless energy and an incredible amount of independence. She lived on her own, drove her own car, did her own shopping, and took care of her own financial affairs. She took pride in looking her best whenever she went out and made sure her car stayed clean and well cared for. Those who knew Betty knew she was, quite simply, a pistol. Nobody was going to run over her. She was strong-willed, quick to read a person's intentions, and wasn't afraid to stand her ground. At the same time, those she loved knew the loyal, generous, and caring woman behind that strong personality. One of the lessons she passed along to her family was simple but fitting for the way she lived her own life: stand up for yourself when you know you are right. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Wilmer and Bertha Belle (Rogers) Barnes, and her husband, Forrest Mock. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Jack Clinkscale and wife Beverly of Marquette, Kansas; daughter, Susie Crockett and husband David of Douglas, Georgia; grandchildren, Jill Young and husband Jerry of Cumming, Georgia, Brandon Crockett and wife Grace of Roswell, Georgia, Kelly Clinkscale of Marquette, Kansas, and Jason Clinkscale and wife Karly of Canton, Kansas; great-grandchildren, Julia Kate and Jackson Thomas Young, Kiernan Crockett, and Kinley Clinkscale; along with a host of other family members and dear friends. A family visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at DeArman-Clark Funeral Home in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. Betty lived 92 years with independence, determination, generosity, and plenty of personality. She loved her family, valued her friendships, and lived life on her own terms. Her unmistakable spirit and the many stories she leaves behind will continue to bring smiles to those who knew and loved her.
