Shirley June Ruggles

Shirley June Ruggles, longtime Wynnewood resident, passed away Saturday, November 7, 2020. She was born July 9, 1936 to Alvie Dewey and Dixie Lee (Primrose) Hays. June was raised in the Joy community, attending school at Joy and Wynnewood. On April 8, 1954, she married Odin Foster Ruggles in Gainesville, TX. Odin and June made their home and raised their family in Wynnewood and are long time members of Hillcrest Baptist Church. They moved to Stillwater five years ago to be closer to their daughters. June felt a strong calling to help others, looking after the elderly in their homes, and visiting those in nursing homes. Honoring her ancestors by decorating at the cemetery for various seasons was also important to her. For many years, she and Odin grew a large garden with June canning the vegetables. There was frequently more than enough for her family and the rest was shared with others. June was self-taught in making beautiful quilts and painting furniture. In her younger years, she was involved with the Oklahoma and Garvin County Democrats and was never bashful about sharing her opinions concerning politics or other matters. June was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Odin Foster, Jr., infant sister Mary Elizabeth and brother Harold Hays. She is survived by her husband Odin; two daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and David Campbell of Stillwater and Leanne and Hank Jones of Guthrie; grandson Ryan Campbell, his fiancé Collyn Moone and great granddaughter Blakely of Edmond; granddaughter and husband Amanda and Anthony Centeno and great grandchildren Lillian and Easton of Aubrey Texas, granddaughter Sarah Jones and great grandson Collier of Purcell, grandson and wife Daxon and Vivian Jones and great grandchildren Declan and Mia of Edmond, sister Totsie Whitaker of Wynnewood; brother Zack Hays of McKinney, TX; and a number nephews, nieces, and friends. Services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, November 11, at the Hillcrest Baptist Church in Wynnewood. In lieu of flowers, donation can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Oklahoma, 6601 Broadway Ext., Suite 120, Oklahoma City, OK, 73116. Visitation will be held Tuesday November 10, 2020 from 4 PM to 7PM at DeArman Funeral Home in Wynnewood.
