James Richard McArthur

James Richard McArthur, at the age of 84 years, 2 months and 22 days passed away on December 22, 2023 in Tishomingo, Oklahoma. Richard was born on September 30, 1939 in Antlers, Oklahoma to Walter William and Gladys D Milam McArthur. He was the third child of four. He attended school in Chickasha and Antlers, Oklahoma graduating in 1957. Richard was drafted in the US Army in 1963 in the Vietnam Era serving with the 98th QM Battalion, honorably discharged in 1965. He lived in Louisiana, Texas and Oklahoma working the oilfields with his dad and brothers for 40 years. His most proud moment was inventing and patenting the Okie-Yoke Stabber used in stabbing large diameter casing. On February 3, 1979 he married Anna Lou Dean Dunn merging their two families and bringing him to Tishomingo, Oklahoma where they would have been married near 45 years and he would live out the remainder of his life. Richard was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved reading his bible, attending weekly service until entering the nursing home. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. Richard was a jokester and was known for his great sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, Anna Lou of the home; children, Sheila Reed of Wapanucka, Lisa Shephard and Bill of Tishomingo, Jim McArthur and Tammy of Lone Grove, Rita Dunn of Ada and Kelly and Greg Otis; grandchildren, Brandon Reed, Rendy Reed, Ryan Shephard, Amanda and Alen Doss, Andrew and Meagan McArthur, Bryson and Aleaha Dunn, Amber and Bubba Tamez, Ashleigh and Mack Lucas, Angela and Justin Gamble, Cody and Kellie Reynolds, Jeremy Otis; brother, Tommy and Kandy McArthur; brother in law, Bob Jordan; sister in laws, Imogene McArthur, Janie Callen and Lue Dean; 28 great grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces and other family members and friends that he loved. Preceding him in death were both parents; his brother, Bill; sister, Betty; sons, Mike Dunn and Joey Dunn; son in law, Rodney Reed; grandson, Joey Reed; nephew, Chad McArthur; mother-in-law, Mary Jane Dean Cole and father-in-law, Frank Cole; brother in laws, J.C. Dean and Delton Dean; sister-in-law, Manie Darter. A celebration of life will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, December 30, 2023 at DeArman-Clark Funeral Home with Brother Earl White to officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be Andrew McArthur, Bryson Dunn, Ryan Shephard, Brandon Reed, Rhet Reed, Chance McArthur, Dusty Jordan, Justin Cellum, Siegel Heffington, Ryder Zayas, Alen Doss, Bill Shephard and Kevin Jordan. The family will have a lunch at Calvary Baptist Church Gymnasium directly following the service. Services under the direction and care of DeArman-Clark Funeral Home.
