Fitz Whitaker

Fitz Whitaker entered into his eternal life on Saturday, May 23rd. He was born on July 19, 1946 in Wynnewood, OK to N.J. and Ethelberta Whitaker and leaves his loving wife of 47 years, Linda [of Riverside, CA], and children Jason [of Gavilin Hills, CA], Amy [of Tyler, TX], and Alaina [of San Francisco, CA], and his four grandchildren, Brittany and husband Brad Lunsford [of Sulphur OK], Jaynee [of Lake Elsinore, CA], Emilly and Dillon Ballew [of Tyler TX], and two great granddaughters, Brazlyn and Vaida Lunsford [of Sulphur OK]. He also leaves his loved brothers and sisters, Kay Dobbins [of Wynnewood, OK], Henry and wife, Karen of Wynnewood, OK], Karen Lou Smith [of Pauls Valley OK], Tom and wife Judy [of Wynnewood, OK], and Mary Sue and husband Kirby Williams [of Joshua, TX) as well and many cherished nephews and nieces. He was the son of a blacksmith and developed a strong work ethic at a young age that remained throughout his life. Fitz earned his bachelor’s degree at East Central University, Ada, and his Master’s degree at the University of Tampa, FL. In 1971, Fitz began teaching Industrial Arts in New Port Richey, FL and was also the staff coordinator for the Vocational Program at Gulf High. Fitz and his family moved back to Wynnewood in 1979 where he built custom homes and continued to reside there until they moved to Riverside, CA in 1988 where he established Whitaker Backhoe company. During the last several years he was able to spend more time in the Wynnewood and Pauls Valley area and loved working on the land and cattle as well as spending quality time with lifelong friends. Fitz left a lasting impression with those that he met with his quick wit and sense of humor. He was a good and honest man who would do anything he could to help those he knew, and even those that were strangers. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends. Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 27, 2015 at DeArman Funeral Home in Wynnewood from 5 to 7 PM. Services will be held on Thursday May 28, 2015 at the First Baptist Church in Wynnewood, OK at 10:00 AM with Rev. Joe Elam officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery in Wynnewood.
